Things To Do During Your Stay at Mytton Fold Hotel

So, you’ve joined us at Mytton Fold Hotel for a mid-week stay. Whether you’re looking for a chilled and relaxed escape, or a jam-packed getaway, the team at Mytton Fold Hotel have some recommendations to keep you occupied during your stay.

Walks

Set in the heart of the Ribble Valley countryside, the surrounding areas offer an abundance of walks for you to choose from – you really are spoilt for choice.

Here at Mytton, our favourites include Pendle Hill; a fantastic walk with exhilarating views. Beneath the hill lie pretty villages, which reveal a history of witchcraft and intrigue, spanning 400 years.

Perhaps the Tolkien trail, rich in its heritage is more your style. The Tolkien trail commemorates J.R.R. Tolkein’s close connection with the Ribble Valley, with a range of spots throughout the walk, claimed to have inspired Tolkien’s Lord of The Rings.

If you’re looking for something a little closer to home, here at Mytton Fold Hotel we are one of the Visit Ribble Valley ‘Walks with Taste’ destinations, with a bespoke walk on our very own doorstep.

Grab a map from our friendly reception team and get going; this is a 2.5 mile circular walk, much of which crosses farmland, climb the hill directly behind Mytton Fold, to enjoy the stunning countryside views.

Why not tack the entire collection, with 21 ‘Walks with Taste’ across rge Ribble Valley.

Golf

Of course, we’re big fans of golf here at Mytton Fold, and are lucky to have an 18-hole golf course onsite, with buggy hire available too.

The course is set into the hillside with stunning views across the Ribble Valley. Opened by Kenny Dalglish in 1994, this 5860 yard course features expansive, undulating fairways, and a real variety of holes which represents a fair test for golfers of all standards, likely requiring you to use every club in your bag to achieve the par of 70.

A Lancashire Gin Experience

The Nab Lab is a family run gin distilling lab in the heart of Whalley, offering a variety of fun filled bespoke gin making experiences. Their signature gin making experience is the perfect treat, date night or unique experience to enjoy on your travels – not to mention their house ‘Spirit of Nab’ gin which features throughout.

We’ve also teamed up with Brooke from the Nab Lab, to offer all new wedding bookings their very own couple’s gin making experience with love from the team to help celebrate their booking in style.

Create your own unique gin blend, whilst enjoying two glasses of The Spirit of Nab gin and mixer (hand-crafted onsite) and take home two bottles of your very own gin to enjoy whilst making your way through the next chapter of wedding planning.

If you didn't already know, Brooke can also help to create your very own blend into personal favours for your big day, if you like it that much!

Meringue Masters & Macaron Maestro's

Our great friends around the corner at Lou Lou’s offer masterclasses in both meringue and macaron making, including all of the equipment you might require (so no need to bring your own bowls!)

Feel accomplished after taking a meringue kiss or macaron masterclass. You’ll become a meringue master or a macaron maestro after an evening session with our experts, that’s for sure. They’ll teach you everything you need to know to replicate the perfect meringue or macaron each time.

Plus, the shop on the grounds at Lou Lou’s kitchen is something else. If you’re looking for a homemade sweet treat, or perhaps gifting friends or family, then Lou Lou’s counter is a must! With everything from blondies and brownies, cake balls and much more.

Wine Tasting

Whalley Wine Shop is just a stone’s throw away, in the small bustling town of Whalley. A multi award-winning fine wine merchant offering wine tasting direct from their onsite wine bar, with plenty of recommendations on the extensive wine list.

Serving a fantastic range of over 350 quality wines, along with a small selection of craft beers and boutique spirits, all complimented by their cheese and charcuterie boards, and delicious nibbles.

Fly Fishing with Jim Fearns

Jim Fearn is an experienced and qualified fly-fishing instructor, in both trout and salmon disciplines. Having fished extensively throughout Northern England, Scotland, Russia, Norway and Montana, Jim’s passion for fly-fishing and fly-casting has grown from strength to strength, now teaching for over twenty years.

Jim offers a range of services and lessons, including the basic introduction to fly-fishing, to improver and advanced lessons in fly casting. These lessons are 1.5-3 hours and available or £45 per hour.
If you’re looking for something a little more niche, then why not join a guiding session on the River Ribble, these are 3-hour (£120 a session), or 6-hour in duration (£240 a session), and can be tailored to salmon or trout fishing.

In the Summer months, we also offer evening guiding sessions, where not only will you explore guiding in further detail, along the river, but also take in the Ribble Valley sunset at the same time.

Interested? Why not book a session alongside your stay at Mytton Fold Hotel. Contact our reception team upon booking to enquire about our fly-fishing sessions.
